Stroke in Women: Growing Opportunities to Realize optimal Evaluation, Diagnosis, and outcomes
StrokeGoRed is Canada’s first national research network dedicated to stroke in women. Our studies will cover the full spectrum of healthcare and stroke severity, examining sex- and gender-related differences in baseline function, risk factors, biology, access to care, and treatment response across all stages of life.
Our goal is to improve stroke outcomes in women by identifying sex- and gender-personalized interventions to enhance diagnosis, minimize brain injury, lower disability, and promote recovery.

StrokeGoRed is a multi-centre, pan-Canadian research network that integrates expertise and resources from three core teams, five cross-cutting theme leads, individuals with lived experience, caregivers, and knowledge users.
StrokeGoRed aims to explore sex- and gender-based differences in stroke care and outcomes, including investigation, diagnosis, prognosis, long-term quality of life, access to rehabilitation, and return to work. It also seeks to evaluate strategies for improving the enrollment of women in stroke research.
2025 StrokeGoRed National Post-Doctoral Fellowship Awards
StrokeGoRed is excited to launch a new national training competition, awarding two prestigious post-doctoral fellowships valued at up to $30,000 each. These awards aim to support the next generation of experts in neurovascular medicine in Canada, advancing sex- and gender-based analysis (SGBA) in stroke diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
The fellowship is open to full-time post-doctoral fellows (MD/PhD) training at a Canadian academic institution under the supervision of a Canadian investigator, provided they meet all eligibility criteria.
The competition is now open and accepting applications until April 23, 2025.
Results will be announced in June 2025.

Our research network of excellence was established by a diverse team of clinicians, clinician-scientists, researchers, patient and caregiver partners, Indigenous leaders, and policymakers, who co-designed the projects to ensure scientific rigor and alignment with lived experience and policy priorities. With representation from coast to coast, we bring a truly pan-Canadian perspective and engagement.
