A new initiative this year for CanSTAR members is the Governance Observership Program which offers trainees a unique chance to participate in meetings and observe the decision-making processes of our three partnering platforms and the Canadian Stroke Consortium.
Trainees will receive mentorship and support from experienced members of the stroke research community on:
- Navigating committee dynamics
- Understanding governance principles
- Developing leadership skills
Selected trainees will be paired and rotated monthly on the different executive committees. Trainees will be required to commit to a minimum term of one year. No previous experience sitting on governance committees is necessary. The program will include online education modules to familiarize members with governance structures, EDI in governance, effective communication and decision-making in committees, and how to chair an executive committee meeting.
Applications for the Governance Observership are ongoing. The application process will include submission of a resume/CV and a statement of interest outlining your motivation for participating in the program. Please email your applications to Holly at info@canadianstroke.ca.
Each month, you will be paired with another CanSTAR member to have a brief virtual or in-person meeting to expand your network and meet fellow stroke research trainees.
If you are not already signed up for the DONUT be a Stranger networking program and would like to join, please email Holly at info@canadianstroke.ca!
